The Grace Of Rain from the Ko’olau Mountains

The waterfalls of Oahu are sight to see after a hard rain. This weekend we were blessed with some of the most rain I have ever seen on this island. I couldn’t miss the opportunity to watch these stunning flows run wild.

The Ko’Olau Mountain range holds a special place in my heart. The H3, which runs through the mountain range, is the first place on island I drove alone and subsequently got lost on. Pregnant, nervous and with a dead cell phone next to me, I was overwhelmed. That was until I reached the end of the tunnel on the Windward side. The sights of Kailua and Kaneohe from thousands of feet up in elevation took my breath away. They were just daring me to explore them.

It wasn’t until almost two years and a baby later that I climbed the Middle Ridge to the Haiku Stairs with some amazing women. Overlooking this once very foreign territory, I felt at home. The laughter I let out on that 12 hour hike and the emotions which overcame me at the summit changed me forever.

On this adventure, a piece of me was reinstated….the child-like giddy and simple pleasure of the enjoyment of life. There was also a piece of me which I had never experienced, the accomplishment of such a hike.

Whenever I get the chance to drive over to this side of the island, I jump on it. The journey is always as great as the destination. When the rain arrives, the drive entices me even more. Watching the water cascade over the mountainous terrain is like the way God has molded me into who I am today. All of the insignificant pebbles just fall away and I am left with the sweeping motion of life. I am renewed in His grace and “all my stains are washed away”. His grace has given me a new life with each new experience.

LYRICS:
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
And I once was lost but now I’m found
Was blind but now I see so clearly

Hallelujah, grace like rain falls down on me
Hallelujah, and all my stains are washed away
They’re washed away

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

And hallelujah, grace like rain falls down on me
And hallelujah, all my stains are washed away, they’re washed away

When we’ve been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We’ve no less days to sing Your praise
Than when we first begun

And hallelujah, grace like rain falls down on me
And hallelujah, all my stains are washed away

And hallelujah, grace like rain falls down on me
And hallelujah, all my stains are washed away, they’re washed away
And hallelujah
And hallelujah
And hallelujah

And hallelujah, all my stains are washed away, they’re washed away.
