Pu’u Ma Eli Eli

HIKE--5

Also known as the “Digging Hill” of Oahu.

This is a hike which keiki of any age can do portions. Some portions, especially the beginning, can be slick and difficult but over all the “digging hill” has low grade hills and is the perfect distance for any average hiker. Be sure you are mindful of the drop off areas, as there are a few.

There used to be swings which were put up by the “808 Swing Journey” organization. They were in great places and gave the trail a little zest. Unfortunately, because of some people who chose to secure a swing at the top of the Haiku Stairs, the swings on Pu’u Ma Eli Eli have been cut down. Their rope can still be seen.

*Babywearing tip* be sure you are comfortable with ducking through trees and low lying thick branches. There are a few areas you will have to do so.

Always check conditions. We have hiked this in rain and sunshine and both can be brutal if you aren’t prepared for it. Visit the Pu’u Ma Eli Eli Facebook Page or the Pu’u Ma Eli Eli Yelp Page for the latest reviews and conditions!

As you can see, we enjoyed some “summit beers” but always be sure to leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but pictures and kill nothing but time.
